August 2009

The rear diff was a little more straight forward, cut of the old perches and weld on the new. New paint and new inner seals just to be cautious.

I used as many of the donor Yota parts as I could basically to keep hooking up the wiring harness simpler. The peddle assembly had to be rebent and altered to fit their new home. The firewall require some changes as well. You can also see the modified tranny tunnel. Seat bases had to be built and the dash is still not quite figured out as wiring and heating will play a major roll in what room I have to play with. But hey, I'm going to have cruise control, how cool is that!
Here is where the diff swap led to other things...more bodywork to compensate for the extra 8" width. First stage was a "cage" out of tubing to form the lip of the flared fender. Then it's just a matter of "frankensteining" the fender metal together to make a solid piece. All inner wall material was removed prior to the new metal being welded in. I plan on custom taillighting with this alteration.
After stitching up the rear fenders it was time to turn my attention to the front fenders.

September 2009

More on the front fenders. Notice the mounting point for my 2" cannon. Just kidding (or am I?).
All welded up and starting to contour the metal.
Front shot.
My selection for a fuel tank. Two 20 litre propane cylinders with the tops cut off and welded together. As is equals 36 litres, calculations tell me I have to split them in half lengthwise and add in a 4" strip to achieve a 50 litre capacity.
Nice thick material, nothing under 13ga. (0.897"). Not that I'll ever hit it but it is now its own skid plate.
